Quickly Unlock iPhone With A Face Mask ON

Due to Covid-19, Millions of people are wearing face masks everyday when they are going outside. This helps us protect ourselves from the Corona virus. But on a different note, Apple users are not able to quickly unlock iPhone with a face mask ON.

Face ID is one of the fastest & secure ways to unlock the iPhone & also to check your notifications with just a glance. For those who got used to it, typing the pass code every time because of the mask is a bummer.

Does Face ID work with a mask on? NO

When you are wearing the mask, the Face ID will try to detect your face two to three times and then it will give the passcode screen. But this entire process takes more than 5 seconds and it’s not a pleasant experience especially if you have to unlock the phone multiple times.

This article is for those users who has iPhone X or later that has a Face ID.

Two Ways to Quickly Unlock iPhone With A Face Mask

So how can we get around this? There are two ways to quickly unlock your iPhone when you are wearing a face mask.

1.Upgrade to IOS 13.5 – Face ID can detect face mask

Our first option is to upgrade your iPhone to IOS 13.5. Why? Since everyone is wearing a mask these days, Apple tried to make unlocking easier, by detecting when a user is wearing a face mask.

When Face ID detects the user wearing a mask, then your iPhone will directly show you the “Passcode” screen instead of face id trying to recognize you.

But what if you haven’t received the update yet? Or you don’t want to update to IOS 13.5?

2.Disable Face ID For Unlocking Only

Another option is to disable Face ID for unlocking only

We can completely disable the Face ID to unlock the iPhone so the only way is by entering the passcode. This saves your time & gives you an option to quickly unlock the iPhone.

How to Disable Face ID to unlocking only

Unlock iPhone With A Face Mask

Disable Face ID
  1. Go to iPhone “Settings”
  2. Tap on Face ID & Passcode.
  3. Enter the passcode.
  4. Switch the toggle next to “iPhone Unlock” to disable Face ID for unlocking only.

Conclusion

Personally I suggest you upgrade to 13.5 since all the iPhones with Face IDs are eligible for that update. When you are wearing a mask you will get the passcode screen & when you are not, it quickly unlocks.

This is way better compared to entering the passcode every time.
