Hover cards in a web browser gives the details & preview of a tab when the mouse cursor is placed over it in the tab bar. Especially useful when we have a lot of tabs open in our web browser. Starting from version 78, Google started rolling out this feature for chrome desktop version for Windows, Mac, Linux & Chrome OS. By default this feature is enabled in the latest version, but just in case if you don’t like it here’s how you can disable the hover cards feature.

How to enable hover cards in chrome ?

The hover cards feature that is enabled by default in chrome will only display the details in text format but not the preview of the tab. By any chance, if hover cards are not enabled on your browser or if you want to turn on the hover card previews / image cards, here’s how you can do it using flags.

Turn on the feature - Hover card
  1. Navigate to “Chrome://flags” in your chrome browser using the address bar.
  2. Type “hover” in the search bar.
  3. Click the drop down menu next to ‘Tab Hover Cards’ & ‘Tab Hover Card Images’ and change it from “Default” to “Enabled”
  4. Relaunch the browser, for the changes to take effect, by clicking on the “RELAUNCH NOW” button.

This will give you tab previews, a thumbnail size image of the tab at the top.

Personally I feel hover cards is a really useful feature, especially when the preview image cards are enabled. But I’m concerned about how these additional features affect my system RAM as chrome got a fame for it.  Please let me know if you found this article useful from the comments section.
