You might have faced a situation where you have a video file on your smartphone or laptop but you only want the audio format of that file. May be you want to listen to that audio on your iTunes or you want to set it as a ringtone on your Android phone / iPhone. It’s very easy for you to extract the audio from the video file using VLC media player if you already have it installed on you windows laptop / Mac / Linux PC. You can convert from a wide variety of video formats to various audio formats. For explanation purpose, Here I will convert the Mp4 to Mp3 in VLC.
Convert Mp4 to Mp3 Using VLC media player
- Open VLC media player on your Laptop / Mac
- Click on “Media” in the file menu, select “Convert/Save” from the drop down options.
- Click on “+ADD” to add the video from which you want to extract the audio.
- From the options below, click on “Convert/Save”. (select from the drop down menu if it’s not showing by default to select “Convert”)
- Select the profile as “Audio-MP3”. You can also choose any other format as per your requirement. As you can see from the options VLC support various file types to convert from and to.
- Click on “Browse” to select a destination folder to save the audio file. Give a name for the mp3 file.
- Final step – Click on “START” and VLC will initiate converting to Mp3 format from Mp4 / Video file. The status of the conversion process is shown in progress bar of VLC.
Once finished, Open your destination folder in file explorer and you will see the audio file.
Using the above mentioned steps we can convert from video to other format video and video to audio format. VLC supports the following formats
- for video : Mp4, Webm, TS, OGG, Asf
- for audio formats : Mp3, Flac, Cd etc.
