It’s not uncommon to close a tab by mistake & to start thinking about “How to reopen a closed tab“. Since chrome is the most widely used browser, I choose to explain this tutorial on chrome. But this also works in Firefox, Safari, Opera, Edge or any other web browser you are using. Though there are multiple ways to restore a closed tab on any web browser, a simple keyboard shortcut can make things a lot easier for you. What I’m going to tell you is a ‘Universal Keyboard Shortcut’ for web browsers
Here’s How to reopen a closed tab on Chrome / Any Browser :
1.Using Keyboard Shortcut
On Google Chrome, You can get the closed tab back by simply clicking the keyboard shortcut: “Ctrl+Shift+T” (In Windows).
To reopen a closed tab on Mac, The keyboard shortcut is : “Cmd+Shift+T” . This will open the last recently closed tab.
The keyboard shortcut to restore the previous session of a tab in Linux platform is same as windows: Ctrl+Shift+T.
The shortcuts that are mentioned above, for Windows and Mac, Works for all the web browsers on both the platforms.
- Repeatedly using the shortcut results in opening more previously closed tabs.
- There is no way to reopen a recently closed tab which is a part of private window browsing/ Incognito browsing.

2.Using Option in Browser
In Google Chrome, You can also right click on the google chrome window and you will the option “Reopen closed tab”.
3.Through Browser History
Though there’s another way worth mentioning here is, By using browser history.
- Go to the history page on your web browser (or simply use Ctrl + H) and from the
- From the history check for the closed page and reopen it.
The history method and the shortcut work for all the browsers on all the platforms.
